The Oldest Sport

Archery is a game that has started years and years before the modern day story that we have today with all kinds of high-tech tools and different techniques of shooting and competing with other archers. In approx. 2800 BC, the first composite bow was produced by the Egyptians. The arrows used were extremely light, could be shot 400 yards using the complex bow and would with no trouble penetrate the shield of that time period.

The bow was keep as a hunting weapon, and archery sustained to be practiced as a sport in England by both royalty and the general public. The first English archery societies dated from the 16th and 17th centuries. The oldest continuously held archery tournament still present, known as the Ancient Scorton Arrow, was founded in Yorkshire in 1673; and about 1790 the Royal Toxophilite Society was twisted to advance the sport

Physically, the composition of archery has developed, the conditions for which archers make use of their bow and arrow has changed drastically, and the way in which war utilized archery has almost came to an end. Archery has marked and will continue to etch an imprint on the world's mind even if only in the past, legends, and tales.
